The annual Generation Next & Junior Generation Next Basketball Camps kicked off with some good high value skill work Saturday morning at Brown Deer H.S. (WI) and then concluded in the afternoon with some good ole gameplay to get the competitive juices flowing for the youngsters after some time off from their July events. With these camps you really want to see the kids learning the skills and working to implement in their games and show their abilities while plays with great effort and great hard-working attitude. Some kids put their skills out there at higher levels than others, but all in all everyone was working and showing that they have some good potential as they grow and develop their games. 

Below is a list in no particular order (other than by grade level and last name alphabetically) of some of Saturday's top performers in various aspects from the games.

5TH/6TH GRADE
DEVONTES COBBS - 2022 - F - MILWAUKEE, WI - WI UNITED
The long and emerging forward was a major force for his team right off the bat. He opened his play with an exciting alley-oop finish in transition and continued the hot play throughout both games grabbing several rebounds, and finishing around the hoop from the post or driving from the elbow.

WILL HAMILTON - 2023 - G - SPRINGFIELD, IL - SPRINGFIELD PREDATORS
Hamilton showed off his shooting prowess in fine fashion Saturday. With a keen eye for the hoop from beyond the arc, Hamilton swished the ball through the net for 3 points repeatedly.  A talented guard, Hamilton impressed on day 1.

JACKSON PAVELETZKE - 2022 - G - APPLETON, WI - WI PGC
The Playground Warriors guard was all over the floor for his team on Day 1, doing a bit of everything. He played strong defense and then offensively he hit a three, sank a mid-range jumper and also had a good finish attacking the hoop and getting the foul on top of it.

TREY PETTIGREW - 2022 - PG - LISLE, IL - IL SPEED
Pettigrew did a fine job running the show for his team. The young guard made some sweet passes to cutters in the half court and another on the break between defenders. He also scored some nice baskets going at the hoop with quickness but good patience.

PRENTICE YOUNG - 2023 - F - MILWAUKEE, WI - WI UNITED
Young had a strong first day of camp during play as well. The youthful forward got after it defensively and on the glass, making sure to protect the hoop and secure rebounds. He was also active on the offensive boards, racking up a few scores just off of offensive rebounds. He had a nice spin for score inside once and another time hit a floater in the lane too.

7TH GRADE
TREY BAKER - 2021 - PG - MUNDELEIN, IL - KESSEL HEAT
Baker did an excellent job being a leader on the floor, doing whatever he could to help his team. He pressured defensively, he got after loose balls, and pushed the tempo for his team. Offensively, he knocked down a trey and also hustled for a rebound put-back on the break.

CHASE COURBAT - 2021 - F - CEDAR FALLS, IA - MARTIN BROTHERS
Courbat certainly shows he has some of the tools to be a tough player moving forward. He has a nice little pick-and-pop game, hitting s three off it, showed some mid-range capability, as well as finding offensive opportunities by rebounding and putting it back in for the bucket, defensively, he used his size well and had a blocked shot to boot.

BRAYDEN DAILEY - 2021 - SF - MINERAL POINT, WI - IOWA BARNSTORMERS
Dailey maybe quietly had a solid day for his team's being effective on both ends of the floor. The young small forward did a nice job attacking the boards in the air and securing them. He had. A pair of well-timed blocks inside and showed he can hit the three with confidence.

MICHAEL FOSTER - 2021 - C - MILWAUKEE, WI - MILWAUKEE SPARTANS
The big man is still putting his game together, but he has some good tools to work with already and had a good mentality as he grows into his frame, some things he did really well we're hustling inside for rebounds, putting back a couple baskets and then also being patient when he received the ball near the block and finding the open man or open cutter for a couple assists.

DARIUS HANNAH - 2021 - F - MILWAUKEE, WI - PLAYGROUND ELITE
Hannah had one of the more impressive afternoons for the middle grade players. The lanky swing forward showed some ability to hit shots away from the hoop but was rally special finishing around the hoop, never relenting. He got after it on the glass, often winning those in traffic and found open teammates by seeing cutters and open guys on the perimeter.

JAYLIN GIBSON - 2021 - G - NORTHBROOK, IL - HOOP AVENUES ELITE
The Hoop Avenues Elite standout had a great first day by playing very smooth and aggressive. He set up by hitting a three ball, then took it the basket for the score, showcased his moves with a great spin through traffic for a finish and wowed spectators with an excellent control when he drove, jump stopped, pump-faked the defender and then finished the basket through the contact.

DAVID JOPLIN - 2021 - F - MILWAUKEE, WI - RAS MILWAUKEE
Joplin used his frame and athleticism to affect the game on each end. Joplin was active defensively, had a pair of steals just by sticking with the play and reading the passing lanes. He saw the floor well with the ball in his hands and found open teammates, then showed off his ability to get to the paint and finish plays against contact and in traffic.

BEN NAU - 2021 - PG - BROOKFIELD, WI - RAS
Nau did a nice job quietly Saturday just leading his team and making the smart play consistently. He found teammates for a few assists but running the floor and leading his team in the half court as well. Beyond that, Nau also did well getting to the middle off the bounce and knocking down a couple short shots.

RONALD JOHNSON III - 2021 - G - INDIANAPOLIS, IN - G3 RISING STARS
It was not anything flashy necessarily for Johnson on Day 1, but rather his overall play and consistent effort while on the floor. He never gave up on plays, did a nice job rebounding from the guard spot, and scored when it was available. Johnson buried a three and had a clean steal and strong finish going the other way also.

TREYVON WILLIAMS - 2021 - G - MILWAUKEE, WI - PLAYGROUND ELITE
Just smooth and steady would probably best describe the way Williams played Saturday as he flashed a great talent for scoring the basketball, creating for others and being pesky defensively with his length for his age and position and read of his opponent. Williams had a nice three-point stroke and made a number of nice, swift moves to the basket for score as well.

8TH GRADE
AUSTIN ANDREWS - 2020 - SF - EDEN PRAIRIE, MN - NET GAIN SPORTS
Andrews was really solid in the early game for his team, making a number of different plays offensively and being in the right place on the other end. Andrews finished against contact a couple times, drove with patience and scored another, and saw the chance to cut backdoor another time for a bucket.

NIMARI BURNETT - 2020 - PG - CHICAGO, IL - MAC IRVIN FIRE
Burnett didn't make every shot he took on Day 1, but that was what was actually impressive. He didn't let a couple early misses deter his confidence, and instead stuck with the game by making some plays defensively and with his passing, and then let the game come to him more, finding the hoop for a score and working back out. Then he knocked down some tough shots as he got a rhythm going, including a sweet step back 3 on an opponent. He had a good, strong day.

DECLAN CIURLIK - 2020 - G - MEQUON, WI - WI SHOOTERS
Ciurlik did his work a little quietly but still very efficiently the first day. The Shooters guard was patient and determined working his way to the paint and finishing at the front of the rim once, scored a couple times on the break, including a semi-dunk, and hit a nice little floater inside.

JALEN JOHNSON - 2020 - G - SUN PRAIRIE, WI - WI PGC
Johnson gets it going in spurts and when it's rolling, he is as tough to stop as it gets with his size and skill combination. Johnson buried a couple big time three's for his team in one stretch while displaying his affect in the transition game with a nice pass one time and an effortless slam dunk another time. Later in the day, he got some attention for an amazing no look over the shoulder pass while posting up a defender to a backdoor cutter for the assist.

JADEN KELLER - 2020 - SF - WATERLOO, IA - MARTIN BROTHERS
Keller was kind of a "fill-it" player for his coach Saturday, as in if there was a job to do on the floor he filled it. He rebounded well overall for his position, he knocked down a three, he attacked and put pressure on the defense, and then another time attacked, pulled back while seeing the floor and shared it with a teammate for the assist.

ISAAC LINDSEY - 2020 - SG - MINERAL POINT, WI - WI SWING
Flat out, Lindsey did most of his work early in Saturday's games, but in doing so he opened eyes with his ability to fill the cup from the three-point line. The young guard buried 5 three's for his team and on top of that was constantly hustling and putting in effort on both ends of the floor.

ISAIAH RIVERA - 2020 - G/F - GENESEO, IL - QUAD CITY ELITE
Rivera showcased an ability to score from different levels. He was able to attack the defense by using his frame very well to create some space on the drive but also moved with a smoothness and burst before finishing with a nice touch around the rim. The QCE product was good on the boards too, getting an offensive rebound and putting back in on reverse side once. He got up for an almost dunk in transition once as well,

SHON ROBINSON - 2020 - F - MARKHAM, IL - MAC IRVIN FIRE
The big man has such length and natural feel for the game that he was highly effective on both ends of the floor Saturday. He was a defensive machine for a while going stretches of swatting anything that came inside at him with perfect timing and also pulling down rebounds with force. He showed that he can also stretch the floor some too but knocking down a couple treys with confidence, while finishing well at the hoop too.

JAMARI SIBLEY - 2020 - F - MILWAUKEE, WI - WI UNITED
Sibley really stood out as a force in both games on Day 1 by just using his impressive frame and athleticism to overwhelm the opposition. Sibley ran the floor outstandingly, flushing a couple dunks on the break, blocked some shots defensively and rebounded with great effort. The 6'8" forward showed too that he can pull you out a bit defensively by hitting a couple shots away from the hoop.

TREY ZASTROW - 2020 - G - MANITOWOC, WI - WI PGC
Zastrow was just all over the place with his efforts in a good way Saturday. He played defense, he found loose balls and pushed the ball up the floor well. He had some nice assists on the break and then got busy showing off the gunslinger in him, but with high efficiency. He knocked down shot after shot both from the three and on little midrange pull ups and such.
