A match-up of undefeated teams capped the action in the final day of play in the second session of the 14U Generation Next Basketball Association on Sunday in Chicago, Ill. Kessel Heat Black and Ray Allen Select both entered Sunday’s final sporting unblemished records and the action was back and forth and eventually went into overtime where RAS guard Hayden Doyle went 6 for 6 at the free throw line to help give RAS a hard fought win.
GNBA SESSION 2 DAY 3 TOP PERFORMERS
Amar Augillard — 2021 — F — Kessel Heat Black
One of the more talented inside-outside players in the GNBA, Augillard is a physical presence with his 6’4 height and physical frame, but he is also a threat to make a 3 and is as comfortable on the perimeter handling the ball. Augillard has a nice pull-up game off the bounce in the mid-range and making plays as he is in the paint. He made three 3-pointers and finished with 19 points in Sunday’s showdown with Ray Allen Select.
Trey Baker — 2021 — SG — Kessel Heat Black
Baker showed a terrific left handed outside shooting stroke on Sunday as he helped Kessel Heat Black knock off Ray Allen Select. He knocked down six 3-pointers in the first half, displaying a smooth stroke. Baker and Kimarhi Wilson form one of the better backcourts in the 14U GNBA and when they both have it working Kessel is tough to beat.
David Joplin — 2021 — Ray Allen Select
Joplin has tremendous upside as he is armed with size, athleticism and a solid all-around skill set. He has the ability to handle the ball and bring it from end-to-end off a defensive rebound, can face up and attack defenders and is also able to score in the paint and around the rim. He had 13 points and a game-high 10 rebounds in a win over Kessel Heat on Sunday afternoon.
Jack McKellips — 2021 — G — Wisconsin Playground
A smart, heady guard with good size, McKellips had one of the better performances off the bench on Sunday as he went for 13 points in a win over Illinois Irish. He stuck a 3, added four rebounds and scored in a variety of ways.
Amareon Parker — 2021 — PG — Illinois Irish
Parker is a creative point guard with a variety of moves that he uses to free himself up to get in the lane and make plays. Had good size and is a strong finisher in traffic. Parker led Illinois Irish with 20 points and five rebounds in a Sunday loss to Wisconsin Playground.
Jordan Rice — 2021 — PG — Quad City Elite
A terrific ball handler, Rice combines a tight handle and change of pace to get where he wants on the court. He also showcased his ability to knock down open 3-pointers on Sunday as he connected on a pair against Team Ramey Black.
Anthony Serrano — 2021 — PF/C — All In Athletics Figueroa
Serrano can get buckets from all over the court and seemed to have it all working offensively on Sunday in a match-up against the Wisconsin Blizzard. Serrano scored 13 points in the first half, including a pair of 3-pointers, then added 10 points in the second half to finish with 23.
Kimarhi Wilson — 2021 — PG — Kessel Heat Black
There aren’t many players in the 14U GNBA that have the end-to-end speed that Wilson displays. He is a terrific defender blessed with quick feet and a long, rangy frame and a tenacity that makes life difficult for opponents. He often turns opponent miscues in the backcourt into easy buckets at the offensive end. Wilson also showed a smooth outside shooting touch and the ability to get to the bucket at will. He finished with 15 points and eight rebounds against Ray Allen Select before fouling out in overtime.
Foster Wonders — 2021 — F — Wisconsin Playground
Highly skilled forward with a versatile, all-around skill set. Wonders has terrific size and frame and is able to put the ball on the floor, drive to the bucket and is a terrific passer and rebounder as well. He finished with a game-high 21 points and 10 rebounds on Sunday in a win over Illinois Irish.
GNBA SESSION 2 DAY 3 STOCK BOOSTERS
Ryan Burtley — 2021 — SG — Illinois Irish
A smooth left handed guard, Burtley is a standout 3-point shooter and showed he has plenty of range well behind the 3-point arc. He made a pair of 3-pointers and went for eight points, all in the first half, on Sunday against Wisconsin Playground.
Carter Capstran — 2021 — F — Ray Allen Select
A physical forward, Capstran showed a soft shooting touch in the paint and on the perimeter on Sunday in a key contest against Kessel Heat Black. He finished with 13 points, knocked down a key 3-pointer and hauled in six rebounds to help his team remain unbeaten in GNBA play.
Alex Figueroa — 2021 — PG — All In Athletics Figueroa
Smooth guard with good size at 6’0 with a long, rangy build. Figueroa showcased a nice handle and ability to shoot and pass in Sunday’s contest against the Wisconsin Blizzard.
Kobe Johnson — 2021 — SG — Wisconsin Playground
Smooth 2 guard who showed the ability to score in bunches on Sunday. Is an active defensive player who is in the passing lanes and creating turnovers. Finished with 11 points on Sunday in a win over the Illinois Irish.
Spencer Johnson —2021 — F — Wisconsin Blizzard
At his best attacking the basket and getting into the paint, Johnson was the Blizzard’s leading scorer and rebounder on Sunday in a hard-fought loss to All In Athletics Figueroa.
Connor Killion 2021 — SF — Yanders Law
Killion is a wing player with a long reach and a smooth, all-around game. Is a standout 3-point shooter, especially out of the corners, and his perimeter shooting helps open up driving lanes for the Yanders’ Law guards.
Aaron McQueen — 2021 — PF — All In Athletics Figueroa
A long, rangy interior player, McQueen brings activity to the court and has the ability to impact a game with an offensive rebound, blocked shot or an easy lay-up in transition. Also showed the ability to step out and hit a mid-range shot or two.
Eric Price — 2021 — F/G — Quad City Elite
Strong, physical player who does a little bit of everything. Price can handle the ball in the backcourt, is a strong rebounder and made several dazzling passes on Sunday. He can also stick an open 3-pointer as he possesses a smooth left handed shooting stroke.
Tanner Resch — 2021 — SG — Ray Allen Select
Had a terrific performance shooting the ball Sunday afternoon against Kessel Heat Black, which was largely overshadowed by Kessel’s own hot shooting. But Resch showed he can knock down open 3s as well as contested shots from the outside. He finished with four 3s and 15 points.
Charlie Wolfgren 2021 — PG — Wisconsin Playground
Wolfgren is a point guard who can really pass the ball. Made several eye-popping passes on Sunday in a contest against Illinois Irish. Defensively, he has a knack for picking opponents pockets, especially after opposing players haul in defensive rebounds.
