Day 2 of the GNBA Session 2, presented by NY2LA Sports, was off and running Saturday at Homestead High School (Mequon, WI). The game play took a little while to build in excitement, but as the day wore on, young players took their games up and competed at high levels. Colton Staggs (UA G3 Grind), Steven Clay (WI Phenoms), Tylin Harris (EG10 All-Stars), Robert Peters (WI Blizzard), and more put together some great performances to help their teams in victory and defeat. Take a look at some of Saturday’s Top Performers by reading below…

KATINO BROWN – 2023 – G/F – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Brown continued to show off a smooth guard game. He was able to keep the defense honest by knocking down a couple three’s, and then was able to drive and attack the basket when they stretched out on him. Another facet to Brown’s game was his ability to bring smaller defenders down on the block and score from there as well.

STEVEN CLAY – 2022 – G/F – WI PHENOMS
While their afternoon win was not a very close game, Clay was the driving force that helped the Phenoms climb out to a big lead early and never look back. At 6’3”, Clay has good length and he utilized it well on defense causing problems for the opponents to get by or over him. He had several rebounds in the game, blocked a couple shots with good timing, and then was right away moving up court the opposite way to get scoring opportunities in transition. However, he was also unselfish in transition and pushed the ball up the court with the pass and drew attention to help his teammates get better looks.

KAM CRAFT – 2022 – SG – MAC IRVIN FIRE
Craft did his work early in the game for Fire as they got out to a blistering lead, in large part to his shooting prowess, and never looked back. With good size for his position at this point, Craft was able to get good looks from the perimeter often. He was absolutely unconscious from the floor in the first half, burying 4 three’s and then finishing up a few other nice shots in the game, ending with 19 points on an efficient day shooting the ball.

LOGAN DOBBERSTEIN – 2022 – F – WI SHOOTERS
Dobberstein maybe didn’t fill up the score sheet, but he was effective in multiple ways for his team. He was a good presence down-low and really played with good balance inside overall, posting up and putting himself in good spots to finish at the rim when he received the ball. He rebounded hard, had a nice block on defense and played tough consistently.

DONALD FERGUSON – 2022 – PG – TEAM GETSHOOK
Team GetShook came up with a nice afternoon victory with some good play from a pair of their guards, and Ferguson really lead the charge with his play controlling the offensive flow and also with his ability to hunt clean shots. The young lead guard showed he has an eye for the bottom of the net, by sending the ball through it from the perimeter several times in the win.

DUPREE FLETCHER – 2024 – PG – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Fletcher is a quick young guard who was playing up, but really performed well. He was slicing into the lane and drawing defenders to either score a couple times or dish off, but his biggest impact came from his outside shooting where he buried several three’s to help his team.

TYLIN HARRIS – 2022 – SG – ERIC GORDON ALL-STARS
Harris was electric for EG10, leading them to a hard-fought overtime victory. He made some big shots in timely spots for his team, both by attacking the basket from the wings and in transition, as well as with the three-ball. Harris made a nifty left-handed basket at the rim to tie the game in regulation, and followed it with a steal and “And-1” finish to take the lead with seconds remaining. In OT, he remained active defensively and on the offensive glass, cleaning up a play for the go-ahead basket.

ASHTON JANOWSKI – 2022 – G – WI SHOOTERS
Janowski was a steady contributor for the Shooters throughout one of their hard-fought games Saturday. A crafty guard, Janowski used shot fakes and some quick blow-by’s to get better looks at the rim. He displayed a nicely developing mid-range game and was able to knock down shots from different levels, including the outside.

MICHAEL MCNABB – 2024 – F – WI SHOOTERS
McNabb had a big game for the Shooters late Saturday, putting together a 21-point performance, and doing a lot of his work from the mid-range area and in. He was strong inside when going to the basket and then also showed he can hit it from the perimeter with a three in the game. He converted some free throw opportunities and just played a solid overall game.

AMARION NIMMERS – 2022 – G – QUAD CITY ELITE
Nimmers made some nice plays on both sides of the ball to help his team come back to win in their midday game Saturday. The young combo guard was active on the defensive end with his quickness and instincts where he got some tips and helped his team turn the play up the court for fast break points. Nimmers scored the ball well also, particularly with a couple nice three-pointers.

TYNAN NUMKENA – 2022 – G – QUAD CITY ELITE
Numkena really set the tone and pace of the game for his team with his energy and persistence attacking the hoop early on, and continued that activity throughout the game. While he worked enough defensively, it was really the pressure he put on the opposing defense with his relentless drives to the rack that made him effective, as he finished several of those drives displaying an ability to complete plays in traffic with either hand.

MARIO SANDERS – 2022 – PG – TEAM GETSHOOK
Sanders made a few really nice plays for his team as they were in a basketball battle throughout the game. The young point made sure to find teammates and get them involved, but was also hungry for his own, and did well making the opponent pay for giving him any space to shoot it by burying shots for his team to get the hard-earned win.

DEMERIUS SHAKUR – 2022 – G – RAY ALLEN SELECT
RAS’s first game Saturday was looking rough in the early goings, but then Shakur started to get a feel for the game and imposed his well slowly, but surely. The talented young guard got it going with some nice breakouts and he finished those well. Once he got a taste for scoring, he started knocking down more shots in the offense, including a couple triples and then attacked off the bounce as well and finished through contact, eventually leading his team up down the stretch and captured a win.

KON II KNUEPPEL – 2023 – G – WI BLIZZARD MCGLOTHLIN
Knueppel played a great all-around game earlier on Saturday, and then was a steady force again later as he helped his team overcome a large halftime deficit to come back and win. The young guard is a heady player who showed great game IQ, seeing the floor with patience when attacking to find open teammates, and then sank just about any good shot opportunity he had, hitting a couple three’s, a few mid-range jumpers and a lay-in.

TYSON LUCAS – 2024 – G – PLAYGROUND ELITE
Lucas was quick on defense and accurate on offense with the ball throughout the game for Playground. When he got any kind of open look, Lucas was putting up and putting it in the hoop, knocking down a trio of three’s, making a couple other buckets, and then also scoring from the free throw line a couple times also.

KAEDEN OSTERMAN – 2023 – SG – RAY ALLEN SELECT
Osterman left his mark on the early game with a few really good plays. He displayed his ability to shoot the three-ball and also showed he can take a defender to the paint with the dribble and then pull-up with control and knock down the mid-range jumper. Defensively, Osterman used his athleticism well too, blocking a couple shots in the game.

ROBERT PETERS – 2023 – C – WI BLIZZARD MCGLOTHLIN
Already 6’2” and seemingly still with room to stretch out, Peters is likely to be on many coach’s radars in the coming years. He showed off a nicely developing inside game and though slender now and getting used to his basketball body, he had good overall balance and control on the blocks and in traffic. He timed out a few nice blocks on defense, he attacked rebounds, and ran the floor well. Peters was ahead of the curve certainly when he showed good footwork sealing up the defender as the ball was swung and calling for a high-low pass where he caught it and forced the defense to hack him to get some foul shots.

KADEN RUSSO – 2024 – F – WI PLAYMAKERS
Russo played a really solid game overall for the Playmakers later in the day, with him and Lucas playing well off each other. Russo was on the attack constantly and got himself to the free throw line where he converted 4 of his 5 opportunities. He also sank a couple three-pointers in the game and was able to finish off a couple plays going to the basket to lead the way with 16 points for his team.

COLTON STAGGS – 2023 – PG – UA G3 GRIND
Staggs was one of the better guards in the gym all day with his confidence in his shot, his ability to attack the paint off the dribble, and his all-out effort and leadership throughout Grind’s early game. Staggs started off the game with a smooth looking three-point basket, and then followed that with some crafty, determined drives to the hoop, one of which he put in a nice twisting lay-up past interior defenders for the score. Later in the game, the defense extended on Staggs, but knowing his team needed some big buckets, he fearlessly put up a couple 23-25 footers in defenders’ faces and absolutely drained them.

TASSO STEFANOS – 2023 – PG – WI BLIZZARD MCGLOTHLIN
Stefanos joined the crew this weekend, but he looked like he’d played with the team for awhile with the way he meshed in the offense and took the reins at times to control pace and tempo. Stefanos had some nice run-outs himself in their first game, getting out ahead of the defense and scoring on the break, but he also knocked down three’s during the day and displayed a decent floater when penetrating the lane as well, and his play was a big reason the Blizzard came back to win their second game after trailing big early on.

CHRISTIAN UVREMOVICH – 2024 – F/C –ALL-IN ATHLETICS
Uvremovich was outstanding Saturday evening for his team, making plays on both ends of the floor and really playing strong inside in the first half, and then just finishing consistently in the second. The young post got to the free throw line often in the first half by playing with good balance and aggressiveness in the paint, converting 6-of-7 and making a couple other buckets, then added another 10 points on made baskets in the second half to finish with 20 points in a hard-fought victory.

MAX WEISBROD – 2022 – G – WI SWING
Though the early game didn’t finish in their favor, Weisbrod left his mark on Swing’s earlier game with a number of quality plays each with his defense, his passing and his scoring. Weisbrod was engaged defensively and made some nice plays on the ball, as well as taking a big charge in OT. Offensively, he played with good instincts and saw the floor really well, often finding teammates and put them in scoring positions. Weisbrod also tossed in a number of baskets from different spots on the floor, finding various ways to put the ball through the nets.

CONNOR WELSCH – 2023 – F/C – WI PLAYMAKERS
Welsch had a solid day overall for the Playmakers as he was a major presence in the middle in both games. The young post prospect was steady when catching on the blocks and showed a good touch finishing plays around the basket either with a little drop step or off the catch and score. He had some really nice blocked shots defensively and was active rebounding the basketball on both ends of the floor.

JAMES WILLIAMS – 2023 – G/F – UA G3 GRIND
Grind got some really solid contribution out of Williams who plays much bigger than his size and frame. Williams was constantly finding ways to make plays around the basket be it on the attack himself, or finding openings by the short corner to catch and then go in strong for a couple baskets. He also knocked down a shot or two away from the hoop, showing that ability as well. He rebounded hard, was a major energy guy defensively and had an overall positive impact when on the floor.

KESHAWN WILLIAMS – 2022 – G – MARTIN BROTHERS
Williams was a definite playmaker when the ball was in his hands in their early game Saturday. The talented young guard was able to score off the bounce and also displayed his outside game a little bit as well, knocking down a couple big shots for his team.
