The annual GNBA Top 40 Camp hit the hardwood earlier this month as some of the promising young talent on the horizon took to the courts looking to take another solid step forward in their development.  As the ball stopped bouncing a number of talented prospects had impressed and opened eyes while some other young prospect made their presence felt as well.  Here’s a quick glance at a handful of talented performers who captured camp awards earlier this month…

2018 Top 40 Camp MVP - 2022 G/F Steven Clay
A long wiry slashing wing with the ability to score at multiple levels, Clay showed versatility and advanced skill while helping pace his team to the camp championship.  An excellent young talent with a nice ceiling, Clay is one of the premiere 2022 prospects in the Midwest to keep track of regionally and nationally in the coming years.

2018 Top 40 Camp Floor General Award – 2022 PG Chevalier Emery
An emerging young lead guard who checks a lot of boxes skill and instincts wise, Emery handles the ball well, he has excellent vision, his passes are on time, and he has the ability to knock down the mid-range looks and the perimeter shot from beyond the arc.  A solid young guard with promise, Emery makes a positive impact when he’s on the floor.

2018 Top 40 Camp Top Shooters – 2022 SG Kam Craft & 2022 F Maximus Nelson
Craft is a long wiry wing talent who puts the ball in the basket with consistency in a variety of ways.  He’s a versatile scorer who is at his best finishing at the mid-range level and facing up from beyond the arc.  He has the ability to score in bunches and does so with consistency and dominance.  Another high caliber young prospect on the rise with upside and potential.

Nelson is another intriguing young prospect with size, length, instincts, and an ability to rip the nets from long range while scoring at the mid-range level.  Equipped with a nice ceiling and an ability to score in bunches, Nelson was impressive throughout the camp from start to finish and he opened a lot of eyes in the process.

2018 Top 40 Camp Top Big Man – 2022 PF Gabe Burkle
An advanced big with size and toughness, Burkle was impressive with his ability to dominate around the basket and out to 15 feet consistently.  One of those max effort types who has no problem playing with physically or dominating purely on skill, Burkle was extremely impressive throughout the day.

2018 Top 40 Camp Mr. Hustle – 2022 SF Greg Galloway
Another do it all type who fills the box score, Galloway does a little bit of everything and he does it very well.  He runs the floor hard, he’s constantly attacking the glass, he can score at multiple levels, and he works hard defensively.  If there’s a 50-50 ball he’s in the middle of it, if there’s a rebound to be had he’s in the middle of it, if there is a positive play on either end of the court he’s usually in the middle of it.  Greg had an excellent day on the hardwood.

2018 Top 40 Camp Mr. Intangibles – 2022 G Jackson Paveletzke
A multi-skilled guard who makes great decisions, Pavaletzke has an excellent stroke and his ability to knock down the jump shot with consistency is a key part of his game.  What was most impressive during the day was his ability to do all the little things on both ends to help his team game in and game out.  One of those gritty guards who makes plays, Pavaletzke impressed throughout the day.

2018 Top 40 Camp Coaches Award – 2022 G Jordan Nichols
Nichols plays with an edge and defensively he makes positive chaos happen with his effort and activity.  A slashing guard who plays hard on both ends of the court and is constantly on the attack, Nichols impressed the coaches with his ability to impact the court when at his best.

2018 Top 40 Camp Top Defender – 2022 G Tyler Harmon
A younger version of former Iowa standout Mike Gesell, Harmon is a blue collar max effort type player with excellent defensive skills and solid offensive skills.  Harmon was at his best defensively throughout the day and was a unanimous choice for this award by all the coaches in attendance.
