Session 2 of the 2019 Generation Next Basketball Association by NY2LA Sports tipped off Friday evening at Homestead H.S. (Mequon, WI). The young hoopsters were eager to get back to competing on the basketball court and several had some exciting games for their teams in order to help lift them to victories or to get them back in contention down the stretch of a game. Below is a recap of some of the evening’s very best performers.
TOP PERFORMERS
COLE CERTA – 2024 – PG – IL IRISH
Certa had a big first half for the Irish in their late night rout of their opponent. The sharp-shooting lead guard was on target early and often, knocking down three three’s and also started things off with a lay-in to get the ball rolling. He added a couple more scores to close the first half with his team, and finished the contest with 15 points.
ETHAN FOLTZ – 2024 – PG – QUAD CITY ELITE
The young lead guard for Quad City had himself a fine game on Friday evening as he played with a ton of energy, great overall control with the ball in his hands, and outstanding efforts on both ends of the floor. Defensively he was pressuring and getting deflections or steals, and on offense he was attacking the middle and baselines to the hoop for a few buckets. Later, he showed off his shooting ability more by draining a pair of three’s, helping him to a 12-point effort to lead his team.
CAMERON HENDERSON – 2024 – SG – WI PREMIER
Henderson took advantage of his open looks in the game as the defense had to adjust and drop inside more. As the defense backed off some, Henderson got a couple clean looks at the hoop and really made the opponent pay in the second half with a few buckets, including a three-ball. He finished with 11 points in the game.
NICK JANOWSKI – 2024 – G/F – CLOSED GYMS
Janowski did the majority of his scoring work in the first half as Closed Gyms blazed the hoops to finishing the game early. Janowski found his way around the rim often, both cleaning up off the catch or driving there in semi-transition situations, and finished the shots with good control. He also knocked in a three and finished the game with 13 points.
DJ JOHNSON – 2024 – G – CLOSED GYMS
Johnson was another member of the Closed Gyms team that had a huge impact and helped his team run away with the game. He was exceptional from beyond the arc in this contest, draining three triples and added a few other buckets in the game as well, all tallying up to 15 points.
COOPER KOCH – 2024 – F/C – IL IRISH
Koch did a nice job of playing within the game and not forcing things. He rebounded well and then ran the floor well in transition, including sprinting down the lane line where a teammate found him in stride and he showed good balance knowing where he was and going straight up to the hoop for the finish. He had 11 points in the game.
XAVION MITCHELL – 2025 – F – WI BLIZZARD
Mitchell used his size and athleticism well throughout the game for the Blizzard who came up just short Friday night. Mitchell was rebounding with great effort all game, had a number of offensive boards with a couple put-backs, including one later in regulation to help his team pull the game to overtime, and overall just finished well around the basket, finishing with 10 points.
COLE ODEFEY – 2025 – G – QUAD CITY ELITE
Odefey played really well for QCE in their Friday night contest as he had excellent effort on both offense and defense. The young guard prospect displayed a nice shooting touch and knocked down a couple shots, including one in the final 30 seconds of regulation which gave his team the lead when he caught the ball, pulled up around the elbow area and buried the shot with a smooth release.
SEAN O’DOWD – 2024 – G – IL CENTRAL ELITE
Simply put, the young Illinois prospect was awesome from the perimeter in a tough game Friday night. The hot-shooting guard had himself a day by sizzling the nets from the three-point line five times, and ultimately finished the game with 20 points.
JOSHUA STEWART – 2024 – G – ALL IN
Stewart was excellent with the ball in his hands Friday night for All In. He showed off really good vision and passing ability, making a number of difficult passes and putting them on the money for his teammates to easily go and finish the score. Stewart also made a couple nice drives to the basket and finished, as well as put in a mid-range jump shot in the second half, showing a nicely balanced offensive game he is developing.
GAVIN TYSON – 2024 – G/F – WI BLIZZARD
Tyson was dynamic in transition Friday night for the Blizzard as they tried working their way back into the game. He played with really good patience in the half-court and was then able to find some seams in the defense to slip through and he was excellent finishing around the basket. The same was true when Tyson was out on the break with a few run-outs and he went past or through defenders on a couple of those, finishing again with good touch off the glass for the score and winding up with a solid 14-point effort.
MICHAEL WILLIAMS – 2024 – F – WI PREMIER
Williams put together an outstanding overall effort Friday evening by constantly attacking the painted area and finding ways to score at the rim. He used his size and good touch around the hoop to score several buckets in both halves, helping to lead his team to a nice win behind his 20 points and number of rebounds as well.
