The final day of the 2019 Generation Next Basketball Association concluded last Sunday with a flurry of big-time performances from some of tomorrow’s bright hoopsters with a ton of potential to elevate their games. The players really got it going for Championship Sunday to culminate the three event series. Guys were hitting three’s, snagging rebounds, getting after it defensively, taking it to the hoop with good strength for their age and with great confidence, and playing with a bunch of hustle and effort, worthy of championship-caliber basketball. Below you can catch a recap of some of the day’s Top Performers and then a quick rundown of other players with noteworthy performances during the third day of the GNBA Championships.
TOP PERFORMERS
DARRIN AMES JR – 2023 – PG – MAC IRVIN FIRE
Ames Jr. was on the top of his game in the 14U Championship. The Mac Irvin lead guard was able to drill a few three’s in the contest which were often timely and helping quell opponent runs. He was excellent using his dribble to attack the defense and then when he got a sliver of space he rose up for a few jumpers and knocked them down cold. With his aggression, he got to the line a number of times as well and converted 4 of them, leading his team to the title win behind his 25-point championship effort.
JAMARION BATEMON – 2025 – G – TEAM TAKEOVA
The younger Batemon brother was taking after his older brother James on Sunday at the GNBAC by constantly taking the ball to the hoop and finding ways to put the ball in the hoop. He attacked the lane from the middle, he drove by the wing and hit some short-range jumpers, and also knocked down a three-pointer in the game, leading his team with 17 points.
ANDREW BAUMGART – 2024 – F – WI BLIZZARD
Baumgart showed some really nice inside moves both with his back to the basket around the post/mid-wing areas, but also faced up from the elbows and using his versatility to attack the defender with the dribble and some nicely timed spin moves to get to the bucket and score. Baumgart played with a high motor and pulled down 10 rebounds in the game, and was able to get to the free throw line with playing strong going to the hoop, where he hit 3 of his free throw attempts. He finished the double-double with 17 points accompanying his rebounding efforts.
NAZIR BEAMON – 2024 – PG – TEAM TAKEOVA
Beamon put together an outstanding game Sunday at the Championships with a huge 28-point outing. The young guard scorer was relentlessly on the attack to the basket, driving and fighting his way through traffic in the paint to get to the middle and score at the rim. Beamon finished with good consistency and drove with good enough control to get himself fouled and to the line a number of times where he went 5-of-6, and he also knocked down a three-pointer in the game as well.
STEVEN CLARK – 2024 – SG – WI BLIZZARD
Clark really got the ball falling through the hoops more in the second half, knocking down 3 triples in the period, including a couple right down the stretch of the game as the Blizzard tried to fight their way towards a victory and advance. Though they came up just short, Clark was another bright prospect that performed at a high level with his shooting ability, hitting 4 total three’s in the game and then also sinking a few other shots as well, finishing with 18 points for his team.
TRE CRAWFORD – 2025 – F – WI PREMIER
Crawford had a solid game early in the day for Premier as they looked to advance in the GNBA tournament. The young wing was active defensively and was a solid contributor on the glass, pulling down a number of rebounds, including a couple on the offensive end. Scoring-wise, Crawford did a nice job of settling around the hoop and going up over some defenders to score inside and knock down a couple mid-range level shots, scoring 14 points in the game.
GRIFFIN DAHIYA – 2023 – F – MAN UP
Dahiya had another great game for Man-Up in leading their charge down the stretch of the tournament. The growing 6’2” forward played with high energy and effort, and was a force on the glass, pulling down 8 rebounds in the game and was really strong attacking the basket. He attempted 11 free throws in the game and converted points on 9 of them, and otherwise was finishing around the rim or was knocking down some mid-range area jumpers, good to tally 21 points in the contest to lead his team.
ANIL DHARMARAJAN – 2023 – G/F – TEAM RAMEY
Dharmarajan played an outstanding game for Team Ramey, helping pave the way for their run on Sunday. The young lead guard prospect was scoring from everywhere, hitting three’s around the perimeter (making 4 of three’s) and finishing a couple other scoring opportunities. He handled the ball well, he pushed the tempo for his team, and was finding the open spots on the floor to score from, ultimately finishing the game with 18 points.
JACOB DUNHAM – 2023 – SG – RAY ALLEN SELECT
Dunham again had another solid outing for RAS as he impacted the game with his shooting ability and his effort o got a on the glass. He got a couple put-back opportunities offensively with his energy and his vision to see where the offensive rebound was coming, putting himself in position for a couple tip-ins. He also drilled another three-ball in the game and knocked down a couple other jump shots, and went 2-for-2 from the free throw line to finish with 13 points.
CLEVON EASTON JR – 2025 – F/C – WI PREMIER
Easton Jr. played really well inside for Premier early in the day to help them advance in the tournament. The long post prospect affected the game with his size on both ends of the floor and finished with really nice control and touch at the glass. He made 3 of his 5 free throw attempts and showed good patience around the rim off the catch and going up through defenders. He finished with 13 points, 8 rebounds and 3 blocks in the game.
TAMERON FERGUSON – 2024 – PG – TEAM GETSHOOK
Ferguson put together some really nice performances to wrap up the tournament on Sunday and help his team take home a GNBA Championship trophy at 13U. The quick and controlled guard was able to create shots for himself with his agility and change of pace, and also got the ball to others to score at times. In the one game he knocked down 2 three’s and another 1 in another contest, and also hit little jumpers or floaters, and made his lay-ups consistently, finishing with 15 points and 14 points respectively, and also shelling out 7 assists and 5 steals between two of the games.
DANIEL FREITAG – 2024 – G/F – TEAM GETSHOOK
Freitag was awesome all-around for GetShook as they completed a run for the 13U title on Sunday. Freitag’s play particularly in their early contest really lifted his team as he scored 16 points and ripped down 11 rebounds between offense and defense, and also got his hands on 2 steals. He was fast and tenacious going to the basket and finished with good touch. He added 10 points in another game to help his team and was again strong on the boards and pushing the ball to the hoop for efficient scoring opportunities he completed.
KON KNUEPPEL – 2024 – SG – CLOSED GYMS MKE
Knueppel played with good overall control and really showed again his versatility offensively. With good size as a shooting guard type player, Knueppel saw the court well in the offense and found ways to get quality looks at the hoop. He finished some jumpers, drilled a couple three-pointers and also pulled down 5 rebounds in the game, ultimately tallying 14 points in a tough championship game loss.
CHASE NORTON – 2023 – G/F – CHAPMAN BASKETBALL
Norton had a solid effort for CBA as they moved forward in the tournament, playing with great energy and control when attacking the basket. The young forward got himself in good positions slicing through the defense and then taking the contact inside to get himself to the free throw line a number of times, going an impressive 7-of-8 there. He finished the game with 15 points to lead the way for his squad.
KADEN STUCKEY – 2023 – F – YANDERS LAW
Stuckey played really well overall for Yanders Law and was a force on both ends of the floor with his size and energy. The wing prospect who did a really nice job slashing to the hoop was under control on the drive and in transition and did a nice job finishing with good touch around the basket. Stuckey was also strong when rebounding and adjusted the opponents with his effort defensively. He finished one game with 12 points and another with 14 points, playing consistent basketball.
ASA THOMAS – 2023 – G/F – MAN UP
Thomas was again playing good basketball on Sunday and really helped his team with his scoring ability. Like Saturday, Thomas was finding the bottom of the nets when he got any kind of good look at the rim and buried another pair of three-pointers in the game. He also scored on the drive and shot a couple times, finishing overall with 14 points to compliment Dahiya’s efforts in the game as a solid one-two punch for Man-Up.
MARTELL WILSON – 2023 – PG – WI PHENOMS
Wilson had a really nice game for the Phenoms against their brethren, and made some really nice plays to lead his squad. The young combo guard was able to get some good looks at the hoop a couple times in the game off the dribble where he pulled up and knocked down some jumpers. He also made some plays getting all the way to the hoop and was otherwise drilling a pair of three-pointers. He also had 3 steals and 4 rebounds in the game and finished with 14 points overall.
MAC WRECKE – 2023 – F – RAY ALLEN SELECT
Wrecke put together an excellent second half in a game Sunday for Ray Allen Select, putting up 12 of his 14 overall points in the second period and helping lead his team. Wrecke used his athleticism and swift moves where he set up the defender to the middle and crossed over to get baseline where he could go finish at the rim or from short-range. He also got to the free throw line and made 3 of his attempts there. As well as scoring, Wrecke also rebounded hard and nabbed 7 boards in the game.
PRENTICE YOUNG – 2023 – SG – WI PHENOMS
Young had a big game for the Phenoms in leading them during the Championship game Sunday. The talented guard prospect really came out with his best effort and made some great plays on both ends of the court. He hit some big three’s to help keep his team close as the game wore on and they were fighting to take a lead, but also did a nice job being aggressive and attacking the paint. Young made a couple nice shorter jump shots as well and finished 2-for-2 from the free throw stripe, tallying 22 points in the tough loss.
NOTEWORTHY PERFORMANCES
CHRIS DAVIS JR – 2025 – G – WI PREMIER
Davis Jr. had an exciting first half one game Sunday where he scored 11 points, and totaled 4 assists. He hit 2 three-pointers in the game as well.
JENCY DAVIS – 2024 – G – TEAM GETSHOOK
Davis hit a couple big three’s for his team on Sunday and finished the one contest with 12 points, including going 4-of-6 from the free throw line.
DREW EDMOND – 2023 – G – WI PHENOMS ORANGE
Edmond finished off his weekend with some solid performances, including one game of 12 points while hitting 2 three’s and going 2/2 on free throws, also shelling out 4 assists.
JERMAINE JONES – 2024 – PG – TEAM TAKEOVA
Jones had 12 points for Takeover as he was excellent at finishing around the basket both in the half-court and sprinting the floor to score in transition.
MATT KIRK – 2023 – G – WI SWING
Kirk led the Swing in a game Sunday with some tough play and hit a couple big shots, including a three-ball and also hitting 3-for-4 at the free throw stripe, scoring 12 points.
DEBANAIRE LUMPKIN – 2025 – PG – WI PREMIER
Lumpkin played quick and tough for Premier and was knock-down from the perimeter, hitting 4 three’s for his team and scoring 13 total points in an early game.
AK RAEL – 2023 – F – YANDERS LAW
Rael had 12 points for Yanders as he was able to get to the hoop with control a couple times and finish, and also scored a three-point basket.
BRYSON SUTTON – 2023 – PF – TEAM RAMEY
Sutton helped Team Ramey on Sunday as they battled and fought for victories, having 12 points one game as he hit a three-pointer and also went 5-for-6 at the free throw line.
JAVONTE TAYLOR – 2023 – G/F – MAC IRVIN FIRE
Taylor contributed with good effort and some nice plays both going to the basket and from the perimeter, making 2 three-point buckets in the game and also getting to the free throw line, going 4-for-4 at the stripe and finishing with 12 points.
MATTHEW THISTLE – 2023 – G – CHAPMAN BASKETBALL
Like Saturday, Thistle was back to burying three-pointers for his team when he got openings and he drilled 4 of them for all 12 of his points in a game on Sunday.
